KS2 resources and support for teaching the climate crisis
Change the Story is about the voices of young people being heard and the compelling stories that they want to tell about their future.
Change the Story encourages pupils explore how the climate crisis is affecting their lives and what needs to be done now and in the future. Pupils create meaningful stories about how the climate crisis is being tackled and their visions for the future they want. Pupils use digital technology to create stories about climate change, producing new narratives to challenge the status quo, encouraging young people in their school, community and across Europe to take action.
We are currently offering support to schools to use the freely available resources to help you plan and deliver Change the Story. Support includes:
- Lively and engaging teaching materials, case studies of how these have been used by pilot schools, and planning tools to develop your own school delivery.
- Examples of how children at KS2 have explored change in the past, present and future – including the climate crisis – and drawn on these explorations to create their own digital stories.
- Cross-curricular approaches and opportunities for subject development.

Ocean biodiversity lesson for secondary
Our corner of the ocean, the North East Atlantic, is home to incredibly diverse marine habitats and species. The Marine Conservation Society’s brand-new Biodiversity lesson plan for ages 14-16 explores some of these key habitats, the creatures living there, and how these important ecosystems are interlinked.
The FREE lesson pack includes an overview of the learning objectives and curriculum links, a full lesson plan, Biodiversity Fact File to support teaching, activities, worksheets and follow-up suggestions to continue the learning. Keep an eye out for more content coming soon!
Dive Project Cornwall competition
Registration has now opened for a unique and exciting new competition run by Dive Project Cornwall for secondary students to win a once-in-a-lifetime experience.
Dive Project Cornwall is giving 20 students from 20 secondary schools across the UK the chance to visit the Cornish coastline and learn to dive, discovering the ocean on our doorstep like never before.
These 400 lucky teenagers will achieve their PADI Open Water Diver certification, as well as taking part in an exciting educational programme, led by the Marine Conservation Society, starting in the classroom and finishing on the beach. Students will explore our colourful marine and coastal environments, gathering and analysing data via our citizen science projects.
Registration to enter the competition closes 31st March 2022 when their panel of judges will select qualifying schools able to go through to the next round, where there’ll be a competition to design a marine creature using recyclable plastics and document the process.

Filled with magic, music and mayhem, this show explores themes of colonialism, identity and place, encouraging young people to ask: Where do I belong? Where is my home? Is it truly mine?

Teacher Handbook for The App
Solar for Schools (SfS) have been working with teachers to put together this comprehensive guide for other teachers on integrating the SfS app into their classrooms while still meeting National Curriculum requirements.
The Solar for Schools app aims to teach the next generation about energy, solar power and sustainability. The app contains educational content, as well as access to the unique Solar for Schools solar panel design tool to encourage school students to push for change with their teachers, whilst considering real life logistical and engineering challenges of installing a new system on an older building. It’s aimed at pupils who are engaged with climate action and want to make a real change in their environment. Suitable for whole school lessons or homework, supporting science teaching or extra-curricular enrichment. Ideal to extend your talented KS2 pupils and equally robust enough to support aspects of the foundation science GCSE.

It ranks the conservation status of all regularly-occurring birds in the UK, Channel Islands and Isle of Man using a traffic light system – those on the Red list are in urgent need of help to prevent further declines or to stop extinction altogether. Shockingly, the Red list now includes birds that many of us are familiar with, including swifts, starlings and even garden feeder favourites, greenfinches. We need to act now to ensure a brighter future for our wildlife.”

From challenging government to challenging industry, PFS has a current network of 3000 schools and over 1million pupils. The programme is available to nurseries, primary and secondary schools.
