The Cloud Institute for Sustainability Education was founded in 1995 by Jaimie P. Cloud and has been a pioneer of Education for Sustainability from its inception.
For over 30 years, the Cloud Institute has been dedicated to developing a shared understanding that schools have a responsibility to contribute to our individual and collective potential, and to that of the living systems upon which all life depends.
We offer a range of programmes for educators, schools and administrators, all aimed at redesigning curriculum, teaching and assessment so students can thrive in a complex, changing world.

Response-Able: How to Live Well Over Time on Planet Earth – a new book by Jaimie P. Cloud
For young people and all those who love them, this is an uplifting and practical book of wisdom. The 2026 Curriculum Design Studio
From the 3rd-7th of August 2026, join Jaimie and the Cloud Institute team for an immersive, hands-on experience where educators, program designers, curriculum specialists and administrators design sustainability-integrated curriculum with expert coaching and peer collaboration.
During the Curriculum Design Studio, you will:
- Learn what Education for Sustainability (EfS) is;
- Learn how to embed standards into curricula, assessments, performance criteria and performance tasks;
- Gain access to expertise, resources and tools to re-orient and enrich curricula;
- Participate in guided working sessions, learning circles, coaching, peer review and optional mini-sessions;
- Develop units and protocols that prepare students to participate in, and lead with us, the shift toward a sustainable future
You can join virtually via Zoom or in person at the Omega Institute in Rhinebeck, New York, USA. The studio has been offered in a hybrid format for many years and virtual participants get a high-quality experience with the same content.
Professional Learning Services
Professional learning services are offered on-site and on-line for faculty, administrators and other school community members. The classic Cloud Institute’s Introduction to Education for Sustainability (EfS) runs over two full days and can be followed up at a later date by deeper EfS content sessions, curriculum development, mapping, alignment, integration and assessments for learning, resources and exemplars, strengths assessments, audits and capacity building.
